Delaware New Tech Academy

 

Seaford High School began its journey to replicate a New Tech High School Model in the Fall of the 2010-2011 school year.  Using this school year to plan, school staff have been busy preparing for the opening of the Delaware New Tech Academy as a small school with-in a school with-in its larger comprehensive high school.  Under the leadership of the newly hired Director of the Delaware New Tech Academy, Chandra Phillips, the schools has made significant progress preparing for the school’s opening in the Fall of 2012.  Activities have included hiring staff for the 9^th and 10^th grade classes, completing a Master Plan in partnership with the New Tech Network,  attending the New Tech Network’s Principal’s Residency, and developing materials to communicate this new opportunity to families and actively recruiting students for the Academy’s first 9^th and 10^th grade classes.  Moving forward, the school will be assigned a New Tech coach to support and provide professional development to the school leader and staff as they prepare to begin implementing a Project Based Learning academic program.  The school will also be actively reaching out to local businesses to build partnerships and help get local community members involved in developing some of the projects the Delaware New Tech Academy students will be working on next year. 

 

The Delaware New Tech Academy team has been recognized by the New Tech Network for their progress and is at the front of the pack of all New Tech High Schools across the country that are preparing to open in 2012.   Innovative Schools and the New Tech Network are proud to be supporting the Delaware New Tech Academy team in this important work.
