Delaware Leadership Project Coach

JOB CLASS: Full time permanent

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

OVERVIEW:Innovative Schools is a local, non-profit public school support organization. We empower Delaware educators and communities to adopt school models proven to inspire passionate teaching and learning.

One of the programs offered by Innovative Schools is the Delaware Leadership Project (DLP), an intensive principal training and certification program.  The program is Delaware’s first state-approved alternate path to certification for outstanding educators who would like to become principals of high-need schools.  After completing a year-long residency in a high-need school under the tutelage of a mentor principal and a concurrent course of study, DLP Aspiring Principals transition into new roles as school leaders.  Program graduates are given two years of ongoing coaching in their new positions.  

DLP is a replication if the New York City Leadership Academy, a nationally acclaimed program that has worked with more than 1200 New York City public school principals through a variety of innovative, comprehensive leadership development and support programs. Their coaching programs are deeply connected to the day-to-day work of school leaders and designed to help principals create and sustain school improvement that maximizes student learning.   DLP is seeking a coach to provide similar support for its graduates.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The DLP coach will be a knowledgeable about current Delaware DOE accountability tools, Race to the Top initiatives, leadership competencies, DPAS II, student assessment systems, and other reform initiatives. S/he must have experience with diverse, high-need educational environments and must be able to support the turnaround of a difficult school building.  The DLP coach is expected to know and understand the demands placed on schools by the DDOE, instructional expectations and regulations, budgetary and organizational matters, the leadership required to cultivate a climate for learning, and everyday managerial issues.

The coach will be trained to successfully use the unique Facilitative, Competency-Based (FCB) Coaching methodology.  As a confidential thought partner for school leaders, the coach is expected to create a trusting, collaborative relationship, enabling principals to engage in critical and targeted reflection on their practice as instructional leaders.   

The Delaware Leadership Project is seeking a dynamic individual who will join an existing team to:

  • Provide leadership coaching to a case-load of principals
  • Participate in the recruitment/selection process
  • Facilitate leadership development sessions
  • Develop customized support for all phases of the program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a  Principal, School District Supervisor or Director, or Superintendent
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in the public school system
  • Evidence of past success as an instructional leader
  • Demonstrated ability to develop leadership
  • Extensive instructional knowledge and experience

    Charter School Operations Manager    

JOB CLASS: Part time permanent

REPORTS TO: Charter School Business Manager

OVERVIEW: Innovative Schools is a local, non-profit public school support organization. We empower Delaware educators and communities to adopt school models proven to inspire passionate teaching and learning.

As a comprehensive Center for School Innovation, we provide the strategies, tools, and ongoing support needed to select the right school model and ensure its successful operation. We provide schools with services in three key areas: Innovative School Models, Innovative School Staffing, and Innovative School Solutions.

In order to strengthen our back office support of charter schools in Delaware, Innovative Schools is seeking candidates to deliver quality services to existing and new charter schools. Innovative Schools is seeking individuals to provide support in areas to include budgeting, financial reporting, and the efficient administration of the operation of a charter school.

AREAS OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:

  • Managing the financial operations of the charter school to include compliance with all State of Delaware statutes and regulations
  • Managing the facility operations
  • Managing the child nutrition program to ensure compliance with USDA regulations
  • Managing student transportation by means of monitoring performance of transportation contracts
  • Acting as key liaison with other charter school staff to ensure fiscal procedures are followed
  • Developing and managing charter schoolbudgets
  • Being the liaison between Innovative Schools and the charter school staff and provide support when needed

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Business Administration
  • Experience in school administration desired
  • Ability to work and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving and planning skills
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • High level of proficiency in Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of State of Delaware PHRST system and FSF system
  • Understanding of State of Delaware school finances to include for state, federal and local funds
